Welcome to Munkholmen!

Munkholmen (Monk’s islet) is the name of a small island just outside the city of Trondheim. The island holds a rich history, being a former execution ground, monastery, prison, fortress and defence station during World War II. Today the island is a popular hangout site and bathing spot both for locals and tourists in summer time.

From May till September the boats departs from Munkegata 70 in Trondheim on a regular basis. Once on the island, visitors can take a guided tour (in English and Norwegian) or stroll freely around. There is a small café located on the island serving sandwiches, warm lunch, different cakes, ice cream, coffee and other beverages.
